8 Ways to make use of your wedding engagement photos

8 Ways to make use of your wedding engagement photos; You may be wondering,
now that we have our wedding engagement photos. What are we going to do with them?
Engagement photos can be too good to be left just to sit on the memory stick or hard drive of your computer.
Here are some ways in which you could put your wedding engagement photos to good use.
8 Ways to make use of your wedding engagement photos
1) Table settings and table numbers; There are some creative ways you could make use of your engagement photos as table decorations
and table numbers through printing and framing the images.

Besides the photos serving as table settings, they also give your guests something to look at.

2) Guest Books; can be printed, scraped or just a good-looking blank paged book that you can stick your engagement photos in and your guests get to sign and write their messages in between the pictures.

By using your engagement photos in your guest book, it further personalizes the book as well as improves the overall look.

3) Save the Date/ Invites; You do not always have to spend a fortune on creating invites for your wedding. Engagement photos can be a much more affordable way to make your save the date or wedding invites.

You could incorporate the images into design or print your wedding details on the back of the printed photos.

4) Postcard – Holiday cards; This is very similar to the last suggestion above with a change in the theme and design to suit.

5) Wedding Website; ideal for those wedding couples who love the idea of having all the wedding information on a wedding website for their guests to access.

Having your engagement photos on your website helps bring it to life as well as tell your story.

6) Family Gifts; Printing and framing some of your favorite engagement photos and passing them onto family members can be an excellent gift idea. The sizes don’t have to be big. You can limit the sizes to 5×6 or 7x5inches.

7) Personalised wedding favors; What better gifts to give your wedding guests. Your creativity and imagination are the limits. You may be able to get some ideas to get you started by using Uncle google or going to Pinterest.

8) Social Media; If you happen to be using social media to keep your friends and family posted about your wedding plans. You can use the engagement photos to accompany your social media posts.

5 Things the groom and groomsmen can do the morning of the wedding day

Things groom and groomsmen can do the morning of the wedding day; On the day of the wedding, the bride and bridesmaids
go through the wedding day rituals such as the hair styling, makeup and the whole shebang that goes with the day.
On the other hand, there is not a lot of preparation that the groom and his groomsmen do on the day of the wedding.
Fewer preparations mean the boys have heaps of time to kill before the wedding ceremony.
We have put together a list of activities the boys could engage in to keep themselves occupied.
5 Things the groom and groomsmen can do the morning of the wedding day
1) Golf; is one of the most popular activities for the boys to do on the morning of the wedding day.
The golf does not have to be the regular 18 hole game of golf but, can be a nine-hole game or even a fun variation of the game.
Say you use the same golf club for the duration of the game for all the strokes, which can be exciting and has the potential for some laughs and a good time.
2) Go out for breakfast or brunch; Is an excellent idea for those guys who would have been drinking the night before the wedding.
Nothing beats a great feed to cure a hangover and lay an excellent stomach foundation for the rest of the wedding day. Going out for a feed means no cleaning up after the meal.
3) BBQ; is another excellent way to kick-start the day and means by the time you get started on the beers, you have had a great feed to back you up.
4) Chill and listen to some tunes; Some guys will prefer to kick back and just relax while listening to some beats. Almost like the calm before the storm, some quiet time before the party.
This type of start to the day gives everybody a chance to iron the shirts, polish the shoes and make sure the speeches are in order and are not left until the 11th hour.
5) Beers and Cigars; If it’s your thing, then why not hang out with the boys and have a few beers and smoke some cigars.
There are a lot more activities the boys could do on the morning of the wedding, and if you have suggestions, please leave them in the comments section below.
If you know someone who may benefit from these ideas, do share the post with them.

Things guests should know before your wedding day celebrations

Things guests should be aware before your wedding day; Your wedding day is fast approaching, and you have everything sorted to a tee. It’s all well and good that you the wedding couple know every planned aspect of the wedding, but your guests have no clue of the plans.

Your guests would appreciate it if you could give them a heads up on events around the wedding day, that are most likely to impact them.

This article by no means mentions all the possible things your guests may need to know before the wedding day, but the ones mentioned here are some of the important.

  • Dress attire

If there is a particular dress code for the wedding, your guests will need to know well before hand. The dress code will give them time to get their outfits sorted in time for the big day.

The fact that the bride will be wearing white might need to be mentioned to avoid the random person turning up to the wedding all dressed in white.

  • Weather Alerts

You (the wedding couple) will have visited the venue and had a good look around the place, giving you an idea of weather-related requirements for the wedding day.
Give your guests information about things to wear and to bring along for a comfortable wedding day experience.

For instance, if you are having a garden wedding ceremony, you may want to let your guests know if they need to bring umbrellas for shade or in case it rains. Gumboots or other particular footwear may be ideal for some wedding venues.

A plan B option for rainy weather may be appropriate depending on the season. Communicate this to your guests.

  • Speeches – Who is giving the speeches?

Things guests should know before your wedding day

This information can be included in the wedding day run sheet. At the same time, give enough notice to the relevant people who are going to be making the speeches. They need time to organise themselves and get the speeches ready in time for the wedding.

  • Transport arrangements

It is easier for the wedding couple to liaise with the venue coordinator on what others have done in the past regarding providing transportation for their guests.

Depending on the location of the venue, some wedding couples will provide a bus to pick up and drop off guests at a particular central location.

The transport aspect is significant because you don’t want your guests to be driving drunk after being at your wedding.
Accommodation –
At most weddings, you do get visitors that come from out of town and may need accommodation during their stay. Help them out by making inquiries and give the guests suggestions and options of where they could stay.

As locals to the area, the wedding couples normally have more information or at least will find it easier to gather information to relay to the guests.

  • Other wedding-related events

It has become the tradition that the day after the wedding there is an after wedding function.
After wedding functions may come in the form of nibbles and drinks or some cases, a BBQ at a location decided by the wedding couples and their families.

After wedding functions give the relatives and friends a chance to socialise and unwind after the excitement of the wedding the night.

Other wedding couples will go out for a catch-up dinner with their guests the night before the wedding.

Whatever the nature of your event, let your wedding guests know of it well ahead of the wedding day to allow for time, so the guests make the necessary arrangements to be able to join you in the celebrations.
We hope you found the information helpful.

If you have any suggestions and tips that you feel may benefit other readers, please leave them in the comments section below.

How to go about cutting the wedding cake

For some cutting the wedding cake can be a daunting part of the wedding day’s events and to help ease your fears, here are some cake cutting hints from a photographer’s point of view.
As wedding photographers, we have had the pleasure of being close to wedding couples as they prepared to cut their wedding cakes.

Being only a few steps from them, you hear them whispering to each other “so which one do we cut?” “How do we hold the knife?” Which way do we face?” I could go on and on and on, with the wedding cake wispers but I won’t.

Couple cutting the wedding cake on wedding day

The day belongs to you as the wedding couple and you may choose to  cut your cake the way you see fit. If you wish to do things in a much more traditional way, here is a proper way to cut the wedding cake.

Time to cut the wedding cake

  •  Invite your guests to come and stand closer to the wedding cake table – this makes it more fun and intimate.
  • Hold the knife together, the bride’s hand hold the knife and the groom place his hand on top of the bride’s hand – it may pay to have a practice run before the wedding day.
  • If the cake is a tiered wedding cake, cut the bottom layer. It’s the most stable and will not topple over when you apply pressure on it during cutting.
Unless you intend to save the bottom layer for a later date, you may need to consult with your cake maker on the stability of the other layers.
  • Cut the cake as you would normally do when cutting out a slice. Use the knife or spatula provided to pull the piece of cake out. Feed a small piece of the cake to each other.
  • Unless cutting off a piece to feed each other. Cutting only once will be enough, the caterers will do the rest fot you.
  • Give your guests a chance to take photos while you cut the cake – it makes them feel involved.
  • Enjoy the moment and have fun.

The cutting of the wedding cake is one of the first things you get to do together as a married couple, so it is kind of a big deal.

6 Wedding kiss tips for great photographs

Wedding kiss tips for great photographs: To start with let’s get this clear. The article is not a lesson in kissing.

The article is about suggestions on how to could go about getting beautiful, emotion filled and romantic wedding kiss photos.

couple kissing on wedding day by christchurch wedding photographers Pip and Oz

I take it, all or at least most wedding couples will have kissed each other by their wedding day. Not many would have kissed in front of crowds of people, i.e., families and friends.

Kissing in front of crowds can be a daunting experience for some, especially kissing in public and on demand/request.

I hope this post will help answer questions you may have on the wedding ceremony kiss.

We have seen a difference in the photos of the wedding couples we have share with these tips, compared to the ones we haven’t.

Kissing Tips

•Relax – Everyone at the wedding knows its part of the wedding ceremony for the bride and groom to kiss at some point.Keep the focus on each other and enjoy the moment.

•Take a step closer to each other – Avoid leaning in for the kiss as if you were kissing a stranger. Move closer and use your arms to hold your partner close, as lovers do.

• 3seconds Kiss – Kiss for at least 3 seconds. The longer kiss enables the photographer to capture the moment as well as you enjoy the kiss for a bit longer.

Christchurch couple having the kiss during wedding ceremony

• Keep holding each other as you are finishing the kiss and look you partner in the eyes. Take a moment and reflect on the importance of the milestone you have both achieved.

• Give each other a hug like it’s your last hug.

• Do something fun – Dip your bride or lift her. Fist pump into the air or something, get creative.

In conclusion, I would like to say. Don’t feel rushed, because it’s your day and you control the pace.

Take in every second and have fun on the wedding day.

Photographs and videos will only show what happened on your wedding day. What they will not show is how you felt at any given time.
So experience your wedding day and capture these feelings and emotions, and let your photographer and videographer capture the moments.
These moments will, in turn, remind you how you felt at that particular wedding moment and time in the photograph.

Raining! 10 Tips if today is your wedding day and its raining

Wedding day rain!!!! The wedding day is perhaps a day which is made in heaven. Nevertheless, if there is some interruption at your wedding or wedding party due to rain, you have to take steps to ensure that the rain should not dampen your spirit on this special day.

The wedding is all about love, fun and joy, now who said that rain cannot be joyful.

It’s the way we look at it that makes the difference. In most movies, there are romantic scenes shot in the rain and they are some of the most romantic scene in these movie. Now what can be more romantic than a wedding on a raining day? You do not need to be a photographer to look at things differently. However, a photographer could certainly give you more options to view things in a unique manner. The rain is not always as bad as we think it to be when it comes to weddings. For instance, a raining day gives the couple a chance to take a lot of cool and moody photos making their wedding photos unique. It is a crazy moment that can have a lot of heart and soul to it.

wedding day rain can produce dreamy photos like this one

The wedding days and venues are decided much in advance. Hence, there is no way by which reading weather reports and long range weather forecasts would help. Thus the only option is to pick a wedding date, times, type of wedding (indoor or outdoor)  and roll with it, and wait to see what the day brings to the party. With all that said and done. You still need to have options in place as a form of insurance  for those what if moments. Like, what if its raining? What if it too hot? What if we run out of beers and drinks?

Especially for those preferring an outdoor wedding or garden wedding ceremony, it’s always handy to have a backup plan just in case it rains, not that the backup plan has to be indoors but can be a simple solution of having umbrella on stand for the guests and bridal party. Not everybody likes the idea of having fun or being in the rain. Thus there needs to be precautions for the same.

Wedding day rain guide-lines to help you

  • Check if the wedding venue offers you an alternative option in case its raining on the day of the wedding. Usually most wedding venues offer such an alternative option if you ask. Make sure the option has adequate natural or artificial lighting as this will help both the Photographer with the photography and your guests to see the happenings of the occasion.
  • See, that the garden would not become muddy if its raining. Usually the mud creates a lot of problems. On the other hand if you are set on the location and you know there is high potential of rain and mud forming. Encourage your guests to bring gumboots on the day just incase, you could even ask them to bring certain colours of gumboots and have fun showing them off for photos. Guests who have been given advance warning and inforamtion are more likely to come more prepared and as a result are highly likely to go with the follow and make the day even more enjoyable for you and everyone.
  • You will have a rough idea of the wedding location better than any body else at the wedding, you picked the location….. Do let your guests know other things to bring like warm clothes if the area is know to cool down during the evenings. Warm guest will focus more on the fun than trying to keep themselves warm.
  • Avoid keeping the food outside if you can help it, as it becomes very difficult to shift the food and saves the food from sudden down pours of rain.
  • When it comes to bridal party photos, then umbrellas are the best backup plan. This is were you can get creative as a bride and buy or hire some cute umbrellas either to go with  your colour scheme or to complement it. On the other hand if it does not rain, you can still use the umbrellas in your photos. Gumboots can also come in handy and can also be used as props during the bridal party pictures.

Be brave go with the flow and have fun

  • The rain can be used to get some  amazing and creative looking photos which can be used by you or your photographer to close off your wedding album, like the photographs below.
  • As much as it is more normal to try and stay out of the rain on your wedding day, the rain can give a nice background for the pictures as well. When used creatively the rainy weather has the potential of giving you the most amazing wedding photos you will live to cherish for a life time.
  • If you have made a raining day backup plan. Be sure to share it with wedding photographer/s and other service providers at your wedding. If everyone is on the same page, it makes it easier to spring in to action without having to wait to be told what to do and hence saves on time.
  • In the event that you do not fancy getting photos taken in the rain, don’t stress. Group photo can be done indoors. Most wedding photographers will assist in finding an alternative room or location that will be able to house the size of groups you have on your photo list and take each group into the room and work through the list. The same can be done for bridal party photos. Your wedding photographer should be able to find a  shaded  areas to get your photographs taken in. The other option is to use the accommodation the bride and groom will be spending their wedding night at for the bridal party photos. Most accommodation venues will be happy to facilitate this with you or the photographer. One more option is to try and pre-orgaise before the wedding day with a motel/hotel to be a able to get your photos taken there in the event that its is rain on the day of your wedding. Some locations are amazing and the resulting photos can look like they are from a high end wedding magazine. The motel/hotel would be happy to assist especially if you promise to give them some photos to use for their advertising in exchange to using their venue for wedding photos.
  • Be flexible with time. Things may need to be moved around and guest move form here to there to get shelter or dry themselves or get a change of clothes, which may end up eating into the time of the scheduled events, so being flexible with time will ensure that you are not stressed about the time and you can get on enjoying your special day.

Wedding photographers are not at your wedding just to click the camera shutter. They become part of the entire wedding ceremony and event. The photographers are there to help you see the brighter side of things and make every one of your wedding day moments to be fun and happy ones.

To finish off this article. When you meet with your potential wedding photographers, be sure to ask them questions pertaining to rain on your wedding day. Different photographers put different measures in place and some wedding photographers will not shoot in the rain or when its raining.

I don’t know wether to say fortunately or unfortunately, we have not had to deal with a raining day wedding, but if we have to, we know we have measures in place and it always good to prepare for the worst case scenario. Here are some examples of of wedding photos taken by other photographers on a raining day. Photo 1Photo 2Photo 3Photo 4Photo 5.
