Bottle Lake Forest Engagement Photography: In and amongst the trees with Lucy and Jeremy.
Photographing people outside on a cloudy day is considered the time for people photography. I love it too, but at the same time, I miss the glow the sun can bring into images.
On the day of Lucy and Jeremy’s engagement shoot, the weather was cold and cloudy with a slight breeze. For those of you who have been to Bottlelake forest lately, you will know that the trees that have been sheltering the area from the nasty easterlies are slowly disappearing. Soon finding wind refuge in the trees is going to be a thing of the past.
Each time Pip and I have recently visited the forest we have disappointed to find some of our favourite spots cleared off trees. Enough of my sad tree disappearing story and back to the engagement shoot.
Because of the cold weather, we didn’t want to keep Lucy and Jeremy out in the open longer than necessary. So to be able to plan a quick shoot, we arrived early to give ourselves time to walk around and scout the area for spots we could potentially use for the engagement shoot. Just a bit of forward-planning on our part “pat on the back” hehehe.
When the couple arrived, we got straight to the business end of things. Lucy and Jeremy are a chilled couple who feel comfortable with each other, and we’re relaxed and laughing from the first click. Need I say more, the shoot was a fun one with heaps of crazy(that’s a good crazy) moments.
In less than an hour, we had worked with five different backdrops and each shot with different lighting. We shot most images with natural light and others with a combination of natural light and off camera flash.
Am loving the off camera flash photography, it’s been opening up a whole new bag of possibilities and creativity. We can’t wait for the wedding season to kick off so can apply this lighting to weddings. YAY!!!
I will stop the rambling. Enjoy the photos from the shoot.
Photography Tip
Check the location you intend to use for your photo shoot at least a few days before the shoot. Especially in the modern Christchurch, locations are ever changing. Walls, trees or buildings you may have envisioned using for a shoot may be gone by the time you get to the shoot date.
Have an option B in place as insurance.
